Hej there!

Designing your own website as a marketing agency can be challenging—especially when you’re new (and everything is new). Starting fresh without established CI elements or a design language means that every decision feels monumental. That’s why we wanted to share a short behind-the-scenes look at the design process, the challenges we faced, and what we learned along the way.

Yes, we know—not all the images on the website are ready yet. This is because we’ve chosen to avoid stock footage entirely. Instead, all imagery will consist of hand-drawn illustrations, which takes a bit longer to finalize. We’ll explain more about this choice later. So for now, consider this a soft launch.

Why the early launch? Because we value your opinion. We welcome all kinds of feedback—on functionality, content, structure, bugs, accessibility, and anything else you notice.

You can drop us a text, email, or call, or simply use the contact form.

Every bit of feedback helps us improve!

The design genre

Our web design sits somewhere between brutalism and minimalism. This genre mix is defined by strong contrasts, grid-based layouts, bold typography, and simple page structures. To emphasize minimalism further, we’ve opted for a “bi-color” system, using only two core colors. Our goal was to create a “zero-fat” website:

  • No over-the-top animations
  • No excessive interactions
  • No buzzword overload

Instead, we’ve focused on creating a modern, high-quality, transparent, and user-friendly experience. The design is meant to help you (the user!) find information quickly, read text effortlessly, and understand what we do—without distractions.

The challenges of designing your own website as a marketing agency

1. You love design

Representing creativity and a unique style is essential, but it’s tough to pin yourself to one specific design genre. A great design agency should have a recognizable identity, but that doesn’t mean it can’t adapt and experiment with different styles.

It’s a bit like being in a candy store but only being allowed to choose one flavor. Sure, your brand values and logo should guide your decisions, but when you’re starting from scratch, design choices are often subjective.

2. You don’t have a product

Our “product” is a service, which makes things tricky. Designing for services often leads to text-heavy websites (which can overwhelm visitors) or minimal content (which can feel incomplete).

We could have gone for an over-designed site to showcase creativity, but that doesn’t prove we can structure pages, write compelling copy, or handle the entire development process. A great design isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it works.

3. Selling a service that sells other things

As a marketing and consulting agency, we work with a wide range of clients, industries, and styles. You need to become a versatile and understanding Swiss army knife. And almost neutral like Switzerland, too. Think of it like sports. Some agencies focus on mastering a single discipline, while others (like us) look at the entire league. Both approaches are great - and necessary. For example:

  • Corporate PR agencies tend to favor minimal, professional designs to convey seriousness and reliability.
  • Social media agencies often embrace colorful, playful designs to represent the fast-paced, dynamic world of digital marketing.

We aim to balance professionalism and creativity while showcasing our understanding of diverse design needs.

Why we use illustrations

Many agencies rely on the same types of imagery—think “creative people” brainstorming around a table or working in an office. While this can help build a personal connection, it’s not the approach we want to take.

Instead, we’ve chosen hand-drawn illustrations because they reflect who we are.

We don’t want to look like we’re creative—we are creative.

While this approach is more time-consuming, it’s authentic to our values and vision.
